August: Month in review (BEDA #31)

Well, this is the last day of BEDA, I thought I’d have a look back at the month of August.

It started off with a bang with my friend and roommate S’s birthday. We celebrated by decorating the house with balloons, streamers, and post it notes; what better way to wake up? We acknowledged Esther day by buying These Star Won’t Go Out bracelets and by telling our family and other loved ones how we feel. We experienced the elation of finding out that the Internet rumours of Eureka’s cancellation were fake, only to have the knife turned and Syfy revoke their decision just days later.

I invited you into my life and home and told you things.  I went to a male review show and took you along with me to experience the hilarity of the event and opened the doors to my bathroom with a look at my DIY disaster. You danced with me when I celebrated my coffee win and we all laughed when the Rumplestiltskin Once Upon A Time poser was revealed.

August also heralded the introduction of my Favourite Female Character on TV series. There is still my top five to go, as well as some guest posts and special mentions.

In August my ‘Is James really Harry’s father?’ post was still the most popular, followed by Linkin Park quotes Battlestar: Galactica, Book Time! The Night Creatures: Burn Bright, and Sad day for Science Fiction fans (BEDA #9). Most of you still found me through Google searching for Harry Potter references, but Twitter and Gateworld also brought a few more of you over.

So all in all August was a pretty good month. My baby sister turned 20 and my big bro 27. Times are changing and people are growing up. Hugs and kisses all around.

But don’t think because I’m not posting every day that I will forget about you. There are still movies to watch, books to read, and TV shows to talk about. I’ll still be here a while longer yet, if you’ll let me.

So, for my last day I’d like to ask you all a favour. How did you get here? Are you a FaceBook friend, did you find me on Twitter, or were you searching for something and decided to stick around? Leave a comment and let me know!

Aussie Thunder aka I am not a pervert (BEDA #6)

I don't own the rights to this image, if you do please let me know if you want me to take it down.

Like I mentioned in yesterdays post, I had plans last night. While I'm sure most of you thought that I was joking, but I wasn't. For my friends birthday we went to a male review show from a group called 'Aussie Thunder'. Before you all think that my friends and I are perverts or sex fiends, I'll let you know that a male review is a lot different to a female strip club—not that I've been to a strip club, but I do watch a lot of TV (duh). Anyhoo, a male review emphasises music, dance, and costumes more than the actual male body. The show is more about the tease than the actual reveal. The man will dance and tease for a set of about three or four songs and then end up in his boxers or a g-string.

Aussie Thunder is a good show, but there were a couple of things that had be wincing with the pain of badness. First of all, there was a PowerPoint showing of horses and general western themes  when they played country songs. Yes, a PowerPoint presentation. And part way through one it broke down and the poor guy manning the computer had to scroll through the inputs to find the right one again. My friends and I also agreed that they had been practicing on a bigger stage because a lot of the group dances seemed a little off, especially the walks to the end of the stage. While these were cringe-worthy, they also added to the humour of the night.

One thing that didn't add to the fun was the overly drunk women who seemed to think that their entry fee of $10 entitled them to special treatment. Some women got very angry when they weren't picked to dance with the men, and one didn't like it when she realised that she had volunteered to take the costumes back stage—I think she thought she was getting a private dance or something. There was another woman in particular who kept groping at the men as they walked past her, and she even clawed at him while he was giving a lap dance to someone else.

Having a drink and a laugh with friends is part of the fun of a male review, but honestly these women were too drunk for their own good and they ended up making themselves look bad.

But those things aside, it was an awesome night. The choreography was fun, the men were very nicely built, and the music was pumping. Two of my friends got to feel the men and one was even pulled on stage to dance with one (the 'Chief'). Like I said earlier; the point of a male review is different to the point of a strip show. This night was about fun and having a look and a giggle, and that was had by all.

To the guys of Aussie Thunder and to Club Helensvale, thanks for a great night.

Has anyone been to a male review show and want to weigh on their night? Let me know in the comments.

Birthday party (BEDA #3)

Sorry this is so late, I had an interview last night and didn't get home until late.

A couple of days ago it was one of my best friends' birthday. Another roommate and I decided to get up early (6 am!) and give her a surprise she wouldn't forget...

All of these images are copyright under a standard copyright license. I don't know why anyone would want to use these, but if you do just comment here, on my FaceBook page, or my Twitter page.

What have you done for a friends birthday, or what was the best thing that you have ever woken up to on your birthday? I was kidnapped on one of my birthdays! Not for real, thankfully; my friends sent through a cryptic message telling me to come outside, and when I did I was blinded by headlights. One of them blindfolded me and lead me to the car and drove me out to dinner! I was blindfolded all the way to the restaurant, but they took it off when it was time to eat.
